Solids control is a technique used in rotary drilling to separate the solids in the drilling fluids that are crushed by the drill bits and carried out of the well surface.
Normally, a solid control system contains five stages:
1. Mud Mixing tanks,
2. Shale shaker,
3. Vacuum degasser,
4. Desander,
5. Desilter, and
6. Decanting centrifuge
Nowadays, most of the drilling rigs will use only Mud Tanks, Shale Shakers and decanting Centrifuges to control Mud properties such as Density and Solid Content…
• Mud Mixing Tanks
• Shale Shakers (Mangoose, High G)
• Shaker screens (ALS, King Kobra…)
• Decanting Centrifuges (Derrick) & Transfer pumps
